NINE (9) LIVES LOST ON NW ROADS OVER THE WEEKEND.

Four people have died in a horrific accident at Letlhabile near Brits in the Madibeng Municipality in the early hours of this morning.

It is reported that the sedan with four male occupants was found overturned earlier today on the road and were certified all dead at 00:50. Allegedly the driver lost control of the vehicle which then hit the electrical pylon and the perimeter wall next to the road and overturned.

This brings to nine, the number of the people who died on the North West roads since Saturday morning on separate accidents. Two men aged 25 and 37 respectively died on an accident that occurred on N4 outside Rustenburg on early hours of Saturday morning after colliding head on with a truck.

The bakkie driven by the 25-year-old man caught fire on impact and was completely gutted. The 37-year-old driver’s car was stopped by the dregs of a burnt car and his vehicle rolled several times before coming to a stop and also died at the the scene of the accident.

On the N12 near Klerksdrop three people died on yet another accident at 01:25 after their vehicle knocked down a pedestrian who also died. Their vehicle then hit the vehicle in front of them and two women died. Four other passengers from the vehicle including a two year old infant were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari sent condolences to the bereaved families.

These accidents come as the Province has recorded the least number of fatalities during the festive period with a 21% reduction compared to the same period last year.
